From the Principal
The end of the third nine weeks is quickly approaching. It is hard to believe that we have been in school almost three quarters of a shool year. I take great pride in being part of the HPE community of learners. We have an awesome school community and our kids are smart, wonderful, and uplifting; and our teachers are simply fantastic to work with, and are truly focused in on the needs of our students.
We are proud of many things at HPE, and we would like to share these with our school community: National Blue Ribbon School-2004; Exemplary Writing School-2006-09; Golden Apple Award Winners: Paula Clarke-2005-06 and Sandy Robinson-2008-09; Mrs. Melanie Hahn was one of two finalists for SC Media Specialist for the year 2006-07; Volunteer Pride Award Winner-School of the year for 2007; "Read-Well" Reading Program; PBIS -School-wide Responsibility Program; Active Mentoring Program; Semester Awards Day; After-school Program/Merit Academy; Chorus-4th grade; 28 Wireless Computer Laptop Stations; and 30 Promethean Boards and Visual Presenters in classrooms. All homeroom teachers now have a promethean board. We are very fortunate to have these wonderful technology tools for our teachers and students to use.
Initiatives this year include becoming an Exemplary Reading School. We are also excited about implementing PBIS - Positive Behavior Intervention Supports this school year. This positive approach to discipline will let students know our behavior expectations at HPE. By going through the Exemplary Reading process, research-based staff development opportunities will be provided to enhance the faculty and staffs knowledge in the area of reading. A focus will be reading comprehension and fluency.
Wonderful things are happening at HPE, and we take great pride in being a community of learners and a school that exemplifies excellence in education.
Mr. Mark Robertson
